The Square and Compass
And the God of Confusion

If you are a Christian who does not understand my strong desire to expose the dark side of cultic and occultic groups, perhaps you have not been paying much attention to the evil world around you. Safely secluded in your carefully protected world of love and tolerance, you have not seen the tearful eyes of millions of lost souls as they peer at you from the bowels of hell. You have not heard the thunderous roar of anguish, pain, and despair from the bottomless pit as they scream, "Where was your message when I needed you?" The sounds of their wailing and gnashing of teeth have been lost amidst the noise of your surroundings and the chaotic affairs of everyday life.

Or perhaps, you just don't know much about the evils around you! That is the sole purpose of APOLOGETICS - to inform and educate. But I will warn you in advance that you will be held accountable to God for how you respond to the information you obtain! Remember this, Christ has declared that "...unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required:" (1) He will not hold them blameless who mishandle or abandon their talents!

If you hold to the phrase that "ignorance is bliss," you may wish to leave this article before you read any further. I realize that "knowing your enemy" is a terrible responsibility. But I also understand the tremendous advantage it gives to those who wish to become strong and effective Christian soldiers. Aristophenes once said, "The wise learn many things from their enemies."

Also, ignorance may be fatal! Though we fight a spiritual rather than a physical battle, one thing remains certain with both: it is very difficult to defeat an unknown enemy! As the land soldier must learn about his enemy's weapons, mine fields, and tactics, so must the spiritual warrior learn about Satan's weapons, tactics, and methods. By knowing the devil's hierarchy and devices, the Christian soldier can put a razor-sharp edge on the only offensive weapon he owns: The Sword of the Spirit or Word of God!

The Holy Mormon Underwear

In other APOLOGETICS articles, we examined the Masonic symbols that adorn the Mormon sacred garment. The square over the right breast, compass over the left breast, and identical markings over the naval and right knee were explained. In spite of the conclusive evidence that these symbols are Hermetic (Gnostic or occultic) in origin, the Mormon is told that the garment itself "...will be a shield and a protection to you from the power of the destroyer...."(2)

I do not believe that the talismanic power resides within the garment itself. The Mormon, for example, is taught that when the undergarment is worn out, the Priesthood markings are to be cut off and burned! The remainder of the garment can then be used for any purpose whatsoever. It is clear that the power resides in the symbols!

An additional point must be made concerning the Masonic square and compass. In speculative Masonry, the initiate is originally told that the square is "a symbol of morality." He is advised that the compass is used to teach the Mason to "circumscribe his desires, and keep his passions within due bounds." In spite of this "entry level" explanation, the Mason is then instructed (in the 32nd Degree) that the Hermetic compass symbol represents the creative male principle, and the square represents the productive female principle.

However, to shed more light on the subject, William Schnoebelen (former Wiccan Priest, Satanist, Mormon Priest, and 33rd Degree Mason) adds another twist. His explanation is derived from the instruction he received in esoteric Masonry (limited to a small group of initiates). Mr. Schnoebelen was found "worthy" to receive the continental degrees in arcane European Masonry which included the Ordo Templi Orientis, the Rite of Memphiz and Mitzraim, Martinism and Palladium Masonry. According to Schnoebelen, "Here I learned the profound links between Lucifer-worship, Wicca and Masonry."

In his explanation of the symbols, we now have a third interpretation:

"The Masonic compass is stitched over the left breast of the Mormon temple garment. In esoteric Masonry I was taught that the compass represents the sacred Goddess. This is because the compass is used to describe a circle in geometry, and the circle is the consummate symbol of the Goddess in Wicca. Hence all coven ritual is conducted in a circle. ...the 'point' of the sacred coven circle actually is the womb of the high priestess who represents the Goddess. The circle then is a symbol of the Queen of heaven; and the compass is her chief tool.

"In Blue Lodge Masonry the candidate is first initiated by piercing his left breast with the point of a compass. And in all occultism, the left-hand is considered sacred to the feminine, goddess-principle.

"Over the right breast of the Mormon garment is a square. The right hand side is masculine and sacred to the Horned God (who we in Wicca eventually learned was Lucifer). The square is sacred to Lucifer because of its phallic connotations, and the Fellowcraft candidate in Masonry is challenged on his right breast by the point of the square.

"...the navel mark of the garment resembles a gauge or ruler, which is the Masonic symbol for the "Middle Pillar' of the Qabalistic Tree of Life.

"...one must go to the grimoires or magickal workbooks of black magicians to find the likes of the Mormon temple garment!

"The placing of magick talismans in underwear is common in witchcraft." (3)

If these constantly changing explanations all sounds a little confusing to you, let's put it in perspective. The only way that Satan can hope to win the souls of most "children of wrath" is through a slow, gradual process. How many converts do you suppose Satan would gain by knocking on their doors and proclaiming, "I am your adversary the Devil. I want you to sign up now for an eternity of pain and torment."? Not many, I'm sure!

Satan would rather not alarm you. He approaches the task with the little deviations at first, something that will not concern you too much. After all, it sounds so innocent and harmless.

But once Satan has set the trap and you have just one toe inside the snare, it will be just a matter of time before you are in the "Sleu-pot." The master of deception gives you just enough information, at just the precise time, to keep you hooked. As the drug-pusher begins with marijuana, Satan begins with your pride. "Take your eyes away from Jesus for a moment and try a hit of 'self.' Don't worry, it's not addictive!"

But sleufoot was a liar from the beginning. He knows very well what the end result is going to be! He knows that after a certain amount of time, your investment of money, efforts, and talents in his progressive plan will be too great of an obstacle for you to overcome. Lucifer can then tell you anything he wants without too much fear that you will leave him. He has you hooked!

Now let's go back to the square. Which explanation sounds more acceptable to you, "A symbol of morality" or "a sacred phallic symbol of the horned-god Lucifer?" At what point in your walk with Masonry do you change your mind? When does the compass, "the most prominent emblem of virtue", become the "sacred Goddess?"

I believe that the devil's subtle tactics, designed to lure us away from Christ, were on the Apostle Paul's mind when he wrote, "Abstain from all appearance of evil." (4) If you feel that you can "dabble with the devil" for awhile without being harmed, you should rethink Paul's words to the Corinthians: "...what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?" (5)

In conclusion, I can only offer my observations regarding the Mormon temple garment and the symbolism behind the Masonic markings. They are pagan, Satanic, and idolatrous! I am convinced that those who maintain an allegiance to them are in serious danger of God's wrath. He warned us thousands of years ago about our involvement with other gods! His commandments and judgment are well defined:

"There shall not be found among you...a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD:..."(6)

"...they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." (7)
